Carolyn (Cis) Ochsenhirt McCorkle passed away November 20, 2009. She was born March 12, 1926, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Harry William Ochsenhirt and Frances Zook Ochsenhirt. Carolyn graduated from Springdale High School and studied nursing at the Pittsburgh Hospital School of Nursing. She married Edward William McCorkle on Dec. 3, 1950, in Orlando, Florida. They raised five children together, moving from Pittsburgh to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1961 and settling in Maryville, Tennessee in 1964. Carolyn worked as an RN at Blount Memorial Hospital and was an active volunteer throughout her life, assisting Girl Scouts as a leader, serving her parish community of Our Lady of Fatima, Alcoa, and collaborating with the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW). She loved playing Canasta, watching the Lady Vols, and following her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in their sports activities. She will be remembered for her generosity, her compassion and her loving presence. Preceded in death by: Husband, Edward William McCorkle; Son-in-law, Steve Curtis; Sister, Mary Louise Stelzer. She is survived by: Son, Bill McCorkle; Daughters and their partners and husbands: Carol McCorkle and Jackie Leatherman; Susan Curtis; Janice and Jim Devitt; and Mariann and John Payne; Grandchildren: Matthew Curtis, Stefanie Curtis, Andy and Leah McCorkle, Olivia Payne, and Zach Payne. Great grandchildren: Hezekiah and Jamauren Tyson. Godchild: Kathy Dooley. Sister and brother-in-law: Jayne and Joe Pecor. Cousin Rosie Lovasik. Several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at McCammon-Ammons Funeral Home on Monday, November 23, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The funeral Mass will be at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 24, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Alcoa. The rosary will be prayed at 12:30 pm before the Mass. In lieu of flowers, Carolyn’s family invites memorial gifts to be directed in her honor to Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 858 Louisville Rd, Alcoa, Tennessee, 37701.
