Carmian (Connie) Forbush Davis

October 26, 1918 — April 30, 2010

Connie (Mrs. Carle) Davis died Friday morning, April 30th, at the age of 91. A native of New Hampshire, Connie lived in Blount County since 1946. She graduated from Oberlin College and Penn State University, where she first began teaching physical education. In subsequent years, she taught at Concord College, Concord, West Virginia; Sidwell Friends School, Washington D.C.; University of Arizona, and Maryville College. A long time Red Cross instructor-trainer and nutrition advocate, she was frequently consulted on issues pertaining to exercise and health. Considered by many as an ambassador of Blount County, Connie served on the Blount County Hospital Board from 1975 to 1988, where she also served as the first woman president of the Board. She is credited as being one of the driving forces behind Blount Memorial Hospice and served as a Hospice volunteer for seventeen years. An avid gardener, she took great joy in sharing her roses and flowers with Hospice patients and friends. Raised in the Quaker meeting, Connie was a long time member of New Providence Presbyterian Church where she volunteered up until the time of her death. She is survived by her husband of sixty five years, Carle Davis; son and daughter-in-law Mike and Ibby Davis, son Lee Davis and Beverly Davis; grandchildren Jeff Davis, Eugene, Oregon; Gabriel Davis, San Luis Obispo, CA; Mollie Davis and Benjamin Davis, Washington D.C.; Chris and Lucy Davis, Charleston, S.C.; Todd and Whitney Davis, Maryville; great grandchildren Emma Davis and Miles Davis, Charleston, S.C.; Price Davis and Hayes Davis, Maryville; Aden Davis, Washington D.C.; brother and sister-in-law, Byron Forbush and Betsy Forbush; sisters, Helen-Mary Overstreet, Marjorie Scott, and Wendy Morrow, and sister-in-law Lois Forbush, all of Baltimore, MD; special friends Susan Naylor, Maryville and Iva Reno, Maryville.
