Captain Howard Barnes Beckwith

Captain Howard Barnes Beckwith died peacefully in Maryville, TN on June 22, 2018 at the age of 79. Howard is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ruth Beckwith; Brother-in-law, Duane Reber; Sister-in-law, Fern Stooksbury; Niece, Casey Beckwith, He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jackie Martin Beckwith; and their children, Angela Bryson [Keith] of Knoxville, Ruth Trotter [Michael] of Clarksville, Howard Beckwith, II [Doreen] of Mount Clare, WV; grandchildren, Jackson and Annaleigh Trotter, Elaina and Howard Beckwith, III; sister, Jacqueline Reber; brother, Tom and Dickie Beckwith and brother, Firman and Patsy Beckwith. Big Howard, Big H, or Pop Beck attended ETSU where he met his wife Jackie and graduated in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and an US Army commission through his ROTC aviation program. After fulfilling his active duty commission, he joined the Tennessee Army National Guard and flew helicopters until his retirement in 1992. His fulltime work was with Northwest Airlines as an international pilot for 32 years. He retired in 1999 on his 60th birthday. Howard loved his work but was also very passionate about and dedicated to his immediate, extended family, and friends. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed supporting them in all their school activities, sports, and creative arts. He was a very active member of the Kiwanis Club of Maryville and was particularly excited about the Imagination Library. He and his family have been members of New Providence Presbyterian Church since 1978. A receiving of friends is scheduled for Thursday, June 28th from 5-7 p.m. at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville. The funeral service will follow with Rev. J. Steven Musick officiating. Howards entombment is scheduled for Friday, June 29th at 11:00 a.m. at Grandview Cemetery (865) 982-3730 www.grandviewcemetery.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the New Providence Presbyterian Building Fund, 703 West Broadway Ave., Maryville, TN 37801 and Kiwanis Club of Maryville in care of the Imagination Library, 576 North Foothills Plaza Dr., Maryville, TN 37801.
