Burl Nelson, born April 1, 1931 in Cooper County, Missouri, died October 5, 2010, at his Maryville, Tennessee home supported and surrounded by his family. After distinguished service in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War, Burl was honored by a 2 week crash course at West Point to become an officer. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Burl completed a masters degree in business accounting from Kansas State University and a Juris Doctor law degree from Michigan State University. During a 50-year career as a practicing Certified Public Accountant, he provided professional services and guidance to a number of individuals, as well as corporate and small business clients. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Shuler and uncle and aunt, John and Alice Burrell. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Pauline Nelson of Maryville, and his son, Timothy Nelson, who resides in California. Burl Nelson’s family includes Martha Hammock, sister, of Ashland, Kansas; Joyce Barrow, sister, Ted Barrow, brother, their son, Scott Howell, and daughter Angie Sotor and her husband, Nick Sotor, of Atlanta, Georgia. A memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 9, at The Sherwood Mausoleum Chapel, 3476 Airport Hwy., Alcoa, Tennessee.
