Buddy Cathcart, (88 years old) and a month shy of his 89th birthday on April 2nd, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.
He was received by Jesus and joined his wife, Helen, with whom he had been married a few months shy of 66 years. He is the third immediate family member of his daughters to pass within the last four years in the month of February. Buddy was an Alcoa Aluminum Company 25-year Club Member, and he enjoyed going to the Union Hall for meetings and annual picnics after his retirement. He was a member of Monte Vista Baptist Church. He served as a Military Police Officer in the United States Army, and he was stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska during the Korean and Cold War. He was honorably discharged and kept in touch with his Army buddies. Buddy enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, sitting on his front porch, watching the lady Vols basketball team, and tinkering with vehicles and equipment.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Ray Cathcart; his son, Douglas Cathcart; his parents, James and Essie Wood Cathcart; his sisters, Bernice Williams, Lucille Young Wolff, and Alva Cathcart.
Our beloved Buddy (father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend) will be missed and is survived by his daughters, Patricia Flynn and husband Wayne; Brenda Cathcart; grandchildren, Brad Flynn and wife Jessi; Jacob Cathcart; Cassanderia Cathcart; step-grandchild, Al Baxter and wife Chrissy; great-grandchildren, Elyza and Gavyn Flynn; special friend and considered daughter, Darlene Baybarz; and several nephews.
Over the last few years there are too many names to mention who have helped with Buddy’s care. Several even went above and beyond by treating him with much love and respect as if he were their own father or grandfather. The family appreciates and wants to extend thanks to those individuals.
