Brenda Louise Armstrong Cook, age 82, went to be with the Lord, March 16, 2025. In 2009, she had a debilitating stroke, she fought back bravely, determined to make the best of the remaining 15 years of her life. After a very brief illness, she passed away peacefully. Brenda was a 1960 graduate of Central High School -Knoxville. She was also 1963 graduate of UT Knoxville School of Nursing. Brenda lived a long life of service to others as an RN at UT Hospital Knoxville for 40+ years. After retiring she loved traveling, having quality time with her many friends, loved her family and grandchildren. Brenda knew exactly what she wanted and when she wanted it. She was not at all afraid to say NO. She was always up for a good time.
She was preceded in death by her brother William L Armstrong and her parents, William C. and Gladys Armstrong.
She leaves behind her daughter, Valerie Cook Bales (Joe) of Murfreesboro, TN. Granddaughter Lauren Bales Mace (Hunter) of Jackson, MS. Grandson Will Bales of Murfreesboro, TN Her son, Larry “Bucky” Cook, and grandson, Jackson Cook of Palmetto, FL. Her sister and family, Patty Tarver/Tom Tarver, III, of Austin, TX. Nephew, Tommy Tarver, IV (Tiffany) and great nephew, Tommy Tarver, V, of Austin, TX. Niece, Emily Tarver of Sunnyside Queens, NY.
In addition, she leaves behind many loving cousins and special friends. A special appreciation to all the wonderful lifetime friendships - Bettye Bean, Mary Alice Bozeman, Patti Freels, Margie Mynatt, Pat Marshall, and Lula Smith. Brenda had strong friendships with all her nursing buddies. She was a past president and active member of the University of TN Medical Center Alumni Retired Nurses Society.
A memorial service will be scheduled in the near future, with details posted at that time. Please no flowers. Any donations in her name, we request go to American Stroke Foundation.
