Beverly Elizabeth Coggin Williams

Our beloved mother, Beverly Elizabeth Coggin Williams, 91, shed her earthly bonds and went to the care of her Heavenly Father on Monday, January 26, 2009, at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, TN, after several years of gradually failing health. The daughter of Jerry Dumas Coggin and Grace Florence Jenkins Coggin, she was born June 18, 1917, in Palmerville, Stanly County, NC and was married to W.V.M. (Van) Williams for 55 years before his death on July 14, 1994. She lived in Alcoa, TN for over 57 years. Beverly was a member of the Alcoa Garden Club for several years, a Cub Scout leader, a Girl Scout Brownie leader and a member of Alcoa First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband; two brothers, Roy Jenkins Coggin and Lewis Bain Coggin; and sister, Jane Carol Coggin Warner. She is survived by her brother, Dr. James Daniel Coggin and wife, Maude, of Danville, VA; son, Jerry O. Williams of Alcoa, TN; daughter, Betsy Norton and husband, Jim of Louisville, TN; grandson, James W. and Kathleen Norton of Cumming, GA; two granddaughters, Vanessa N. and Brian Dettrie of Virginia Beach, VA and Elizabeth N. and Andrew Rander of Naples, Italy; and four great grandchildren, James Connor Norton, Mary Kathryn Norton, Andrew Rice Rander and Ryan Christopher Miller. The family would like to thank Drs. John Ingram and Lewis Sommerville, Andrea Breeding, NP, the staff of Colonial Hills and Asbury Place of Maryville and her caregivers, Susie Stephens, Mary Jaske, Eyvonne Fancher and Judy Abney for helping our mother make the transition from this life to a better one. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Stony Hill UMC Cemetery outside Badin, NC. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. at Alcoa First United Methodist Church on Thursday, January 29, 2009.
