On April 17, 1933, Betty Jo Pierce Johnson was born into the family of George Oliver Pierce and Martha Naomi Murrell Pierce in Maryville, Tennessee. She attended West Side School and was a 1951 graduate of Maryville High School. She was employed for forty years in the office of Dr. Herbert Nash. She was known as Mama Johnson to the Porter High School girls basketball players. She was predeceased by parents and husband of sixty years, Galen Johnson, Jr., mother and father-in-law, Hazel and Galen Johnson, Sr., brothers, Kenneth Charles (Buddy) Pierce and George O. Pierce, Jr., sisters and brothers-in-law Louise and Clyde Irwin and Mary Helen and Ralph Millsaps, brothers-in-law Kenneth McMahan and Jim Crowder, sister-in-law Lila Myers, niece Beverly Woodruff, nephews Rodney Pierce and Joe Crowder. Survived by daughters, Donna (Mike) Brewington, Taylors, SC; Stephanie (Jerry) Thompson, Gaye (Mark) Hasty, and Dawn (Tony) Reagan all of Maryville. Five grandchildren, Lance (Laura) Grooms, Marietta, GA; Nick (Heather) Grooms, Stockbridge, GA; Mark (Ashlee) Hasty, Marissa (Allen) Lambert, and Mindy Reagan all of Maryville. Seven great-grandchildren, Dawson and Taylor Grooms, Stockbridge, GA; Brantley Grooms, Marietta, GA; Bailey and Payton Hasty, Troy and Addie Jo Lambert all of Maryville. Adopted and step-grandchildren, Alyssa Taylor of Stockbridge, GA; Lanna, Elle, Natalee, and Hadlee-Rose Davidson all of Maryville. Also survived by sister, June McMahan Lawson, Paxton, IL; sisters-in-law, Jean Pierce, Doris Crowder, Sylvia Webb, Sandy (David) Costner, brothers-in-law, Leon Myers, Jack (Elaine) Johnson, and David (Janet) Johnson, and a plethora of nieces and nephews on both the Pierce and Johnson sides. Friends may drop by McCammon-Ammons-Click funeral home at their convenience. The Family will be available at McCammom-Ammons-Click from 8:30-9:30 AM, Monday July 1 prior to the processional to Mt. View Church of Christ (Christian) Church. Graveside service at 10:00 AM conducted by Gary Thomas.
