Betty Jo (Irwin) Williams, 78, passed away Monday, August 23, 2010, at Asbury Place Health Care Center, Maryville. She was a beloved wife; devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; loving sister and good friend. She graduated from Porter High School and American College, where she trained as a Certified Nursing Assistant, working at Wellington Place and Asbury Place and as a private duty caregiver. She was a member of Church Street United Methodist, Knoxville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. John G. Williams. Betty was a vital part of her husband’s pastoral ministry, serving United Methodist churches in Maryville, Pigeon Forge, Jellico, Norris, Chattanooga and Athens, as well as Grundy and Jonesville in Virginia and in Little Rock, Arkansas. She absolutely loved being a minister’s wife as well as spending time in Cades Cove, cheering on the UT VOLS and eating home-grown tomatoes! She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Shannon McCammon, Russellville, KY; Jonna and Tom Ballard, Wytheville, VA; and daughter, Teresa Williams, Knoxville. Grandchildren include Shanna and Kelly Meyers, Lexington, KY; Erin and Shawn Patrick, Ashland, KY; Rebecca and James Kurk, Paris, KY; and William Ballard and Emily Ballard, Wytheville, VA. Her great-grandchildren are Emerson Meyers and Fisher Patrick. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, R. W. and Dee Irwin, Maryville; her sister, Ruth Burch, Maryville; several nieces and nephews and special friends. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 26, at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville. Rev. Andy Ferguson, Rev. Darryll Rasnake and Rev. Carol Wilson will lead the Celebration of Life Service at 7:00 p.m. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the interment service. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to those many persons who cared for her (and her family) during these past few months, especially Dr. Constance Hardy and Dr. Samar Alsharif of Blount Memorial Hospital and Dr. Teresa Catron and the staff on the 3rd floor of Asbury Place Health Care.
