Ben Alexander Hammontree, age 94 of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Colonial Hills Nursing Home. He was born and lived in Loudon County until 1978. He went to Greenback Presbyterian Church where he served as Clerk of Session for 32 years and served as Mayor of Greenback for 12 years. In 1978, he moved to Blount County. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Maryville, where he served as vice president of the Wesley Barnhill Sunday School Class for a number of years, and was a retired master mechanic. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Annis and John Hammontree; brother, Ralph Hammontree; sister, Mary Ruth Brown. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Hazel Dixon Hammontree; daughters, Wanda Hammontree of Alcoa, Jewel Hood and husband Robert of Louisville; granddaughter, Michelle Knight and husband Jody of Maryville; 3 great grandchildren, Shelby, Andrew and Jacob; brother-in-law, Kenneth Brown of Maryville. Ben was a patient and loving husband and father. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Larry and Brenda Carroll officiating. The entombment will follow in Sherwood Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. Thursday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home.
