Barbara Chisholm Stanley, age 96, of Maryville, passed peacefully in her home on Wednesday, September 1, 2010. She was a native of Somerville, Massachusetts where she was trained in Dental Hygiene. It was at Forsyth Dental School in Boston where she met Thomas Stanley of Maryville, also in training for Children's Dentistry and they wed in 1937 returning to Maryville to raise their family. She is preceded in death by her spouse, Dr. Thomas G. Stanley, and her son, Dr. Stephen D. Stanley, a grandson, Nathan Stanley, and a daughter-in-law, Bettye Whitlock Stanley. She leaves behind her sons, David (Marilyn) Stanley of Oak Ridge; John (Ruth) Stanley of Rising Fawn, GA; Tom Stanley of Maryville; a daughter, Anne (Dennis) Van Curen of Maryville; and a daughter-in-law, Judy Blackwood Stanley, also of Maryville. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, all of whom she was extremely proud. After moving to Maryville as a new bride, Barbara became an active member in the community where she served in many areas. She worked on the board of the Blount County Children's Home, was the past president of Chilhowee Club, and served as president of the PTA for the Maryville City Schools. Barbara has also been an active member of Maryville's First United Methodist Church for the past 73 years, where she taught the Young Sunday School class for over 50 of those years. After her children left home, Barbara picked up her career again in the dental office where she assisted her husband for 12 years prior to his retirement. The family would like to thank Blount Memorial Hospice for the care they extended to Barbara. Nurses: Kristi Munsey, Brenda Cook and Jesse Fussell; Social Worker: Ginger Billingsley; Chaplain: Ann Brunger and Hospice Volunteer Diane Lankford. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Magnolia Cemetery for the interment service. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Maryville First United Methodist Church with Rev.
