Andrew W. Spickard, age 92 of Maryville, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Blount Memorial Hospital. Andy retired from Alcoa in 1978 following a 35 year career with Alcoa where he held management positions in Sales, Real Estate and subsidiary Companies. At the time of his retirement he was President of Alcoa Construction Systems, Inc. Following his Alcoa service he joined the staff at The University of Tennessee College of Engineering where he held the position of Associate Dean until he retired in 1988. He was a graduate of Tennessee Military Institute and the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. where he studied Engineering and Business Administration. He served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II as Captain in Artillery and Transportation where his unit was awarded three Bronze Stars. He had earlier been active in Scouting, Little League Baseball, and was a member in the American Arbitration Association. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church and a current member in New Providence Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marcia Keirn Spickard, second wife, Jean Huddleston Spickard, and his parents Mr. & Mrs. W. E. W. Lloyd. He is survived by his sons Lloyd and Brian of Atlanta, Georgia and Richard of Pittsburgh, PA, their wives and seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, sister Andra Yorstoun of Dallas, Texas, four stepchildren and their families. A private interment service will be held at Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 12 noon on Friday, December 20th at New Providence Presbyterian Church with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m. with The Rev. Dr. Emily Anderson and Rev. Steve Musick officiating. Family suggest no flowers, but those wishing may make memorials to their favorite charities or to the Spickard Family Engineering Scholarship Endowment Fund, The University of Tennessee, Development Office, Andy Holt Tower, Knoxville, TN 37996-3551.
