Andrew J. Chandler

Andrew J. Chandler, age 89 of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Fairpark Healthcare Center. He was born in Boyds Creek in Sevier County on January 16, 1915, was raised in Knoxville, graduated from Knoxville High School in 1932 and attended U. T. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Navy, was a member of the American Legion Post 13 and a member of the Blount County United Veterans. Mr. Chandler was a member of Alcoa First United Methodist Church, retired from ALCOA in 1977, was a member of the ALCOA 25 Year Service Club and a Charter member of the Alcoa Kiwanis Club. He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Williams; parents, William Riley Chandler and Dora May Chandler; brothers, Kelly, Fayte, Ester and Bill; sister, Hattie Linginfelter. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Janie Chandler of Maryville; sons, J. K. Williams and wife Lynda of Alcoa, Doug Williams of Lenoir City and David Chandler and wife Candy of Maryville; grandchildren, Terri and Daniel Palos of Lorain, OH, Robert and Lisa Williams of Knoxville, Michael D. Chandler with the U. S. Army, Michael B. Williams of Maryville, Brandon Ledford of Knoxville and Justin Ledford of Louisville; 3 great grandchildren; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Barbara Gee of Friendsville; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday at Alcoa First United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Green and Rev. Jason Brown officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for a military interment service. The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. Friday at the Church. Honorary Pall Bearers will be the members of the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Andy Chandler/Charlie Holt Scholarship Award, c/o Veterans Affairs Office, 305 Court Street, Maryville, TN 37804 and to Alcoa First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 617 Gilbert Street, Alcoa, TN 37701.
