Andra Shelton Haws

Andra Shelton Haws, born February 1, 1936, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, August 27. She was preceded in death by her parents, H. C. Shelton and Lois Butterfield Shelton. She was born in El Dorado, Arkansas, and lived in Oklahoma, Knoxville, and Delaware, before marrying The Reverend Howard E. "Gene" Haws, on October 26, 1956. After serving Methodist churches in Knoxville and Episcopal churches in Humboldt and Memphis, they moved to Maryville in 1976, where he served as priest at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church until his retirement. Andra is survived by her husband; her daughter Lois Ross and husband John, and their son Will (Tiffany) and their daughter Andra, and son Hudson; son Tim (Clara) and their children Ruby, Tallulah, and Lucas; son John (Susan) and their daughters Julia and Lucie; loving cousins and nieces. Andra was former owner of The Book Racks in Maryville and south Knoxville. Andra was a fabulous cook and entertainer. She was a lover of books, antiques, estate sales and travel, especially to France and Italy. She loved spending time at her farm in Arkansas. She was a member of multiple book clubs and loved her Tai Chi class at the Blount Memorial Wellness Center, but more importantly, coffee with friends after class. Andra was blessed with many wonderful friends, and she will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral on Tuesday, August 30, at 5:00 p.m. with Rev. Chris Hackett officiating followed by receiving of friends in St. John's Great Hall. Interment of ashes will occur graveside at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church on Tuesday, August 30, at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Southern Poverty Law Center, 400 Washington Avenue, Montgomery, AL 36104; The Salvation Army, P.O.
