Alfred Thomas "Tom" Pearce, Jr.

July 11, 1927 — May 8, 2016

Alfred Thomas Pearce, Jr., passed away May 8, 2016, at home surrounded by his family. Beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, Tom's joyful spirit touched all of those around him. Tom grew up in North Knox County and graduated from Central High School in 1945. He was very active in the Boy Scout program achieving Eagle Scout and the Order of the Arrow. Following graduation, he served at the end of World War II. He then attended the University of Tennessee, graduating in 1951 with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering. Soon afterwards, Tom was drafted into the Korean War as a First Lieutenant in the US Army Corps of Engineers. Following his tour of duty in Korea, he returned to East Tennessee and married Alice Ruth Sharp. Tom and Alice settled in Chattanooga, and Tom embarked upon his thirty-year tenure with TVA as a power planning engineer. Tom and Alice were long-time faithful members of First Christian Church in Chattanooga, TN where he served as both a deacon and elder of the church. Tom is preceded in death by his father and mother, Alfred Thomas and Jessie Conner Pearce. He is survived by his wife, Alice Sharp Pearce; daughter and son-in-law, Marian and Glenn White and daughter, Nancy Browning all of Maryville; son, Wayne Thomas Pearce of Gatlinburg; sister, Frances Pearce Byrne of Knoxville; grandsons, Richard Thomas (Stephanie) White, Robert Thomas (Stephanie) Browning; granddaughters, Lauren (Nathanial) Wilson and Leslie Browning; and great-grandson, Peyton Thomas Browning. The family will receive friends from 5-6:00 p.m. Tuesday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Catherine Nance officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for the interment service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First United Methodist Church, Maryville Memorial Fund or Good Neighbors of Maryville. The family would like to thank all of the home health caregivers from Extended Family Services who showed kindness, love and support to Tom.
