Alena Faye Rowan

October 1, 1914 — July 13, 2014

Alena Faye Rowan, 99 of Delray Beach, FL, passed away peacefully at Abbey Delray Health-center on Sunday, July 13, under Hospice Care. She was born in Grainger County, TN, October 1914. She was a war bride and married Lt. Ralph Rowan (while he was Assistant Base Operations officer at the Avon Park Army Air Corp training center) during the Second World War in Highlands County, FL in 1943. After the war, they resided in Maryville, TN and were members of the First United Methodist Church until 1960 when they moved and became retail store owners in Atlanta, GA. They relocated (with another retail store) to Venice, FL in the mid 1970'sw and later they retired to Delray Beach, FL in the early 1980's. She volunteered for 10 years as a cashier for the Haven thrift shop in downtown Delray. She was active in charitable matters with the Cason United Methodist Church in Delray Beach. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Linda and John Snipes of Decatur, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Lorie Rowan of Boca Raton; grandchildren include, Jody Petrow of Bellevue, NE, Andrea Rowan Hill of Crozet, VA and Dana Rowan Gould of Albuquerque, NM. In addition, she has six great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Friday from 5-6:30 p.m. at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home.
