Talmage Leander Hudson

September 3, 1910 — August 4, 2005

HUDSON, Talmage Leander, age 94, passed peacefully away to be with his Lord on August 4, 2005, at the Maryville Health Care Center, Maryville, TN. Born in Hudson, FL on September 3, 1910, he was the son of Alfred and Annie (Leapold) Hudson of this Gulf Coast City founded by Issac and Amanda Hudson. In the late twenties, he moved with his family to North Fort Myers, FL where he met and married the late Juanita (Rosser) Sherrill, daughter of Charles and Kathryn (John’s) Rosser of New Prospect on the North shore of the Caloosahatchee River. In the thirties, he moved his family to Washington, DC where he was employed at the Ambassador Hotel for a number of years. He returned to Fort Myers in the latter part of the decade and worked in the auto mechanic trade. Over the next several years, he was employed by several prominent auto dealerships and became known and respected for his talent in repairing vehicles. He was also a master carpenter, having built 3 homes for his family during his lifetime. During World War II, he served in the Pacific theater. Following the war, he returned to Fort Myers and continued his occupation as an auto mechanic. In the sixties, he returned to his home town of Hudson where he met and married his late wife, Ella Caruthers of 35 years the daughter of Jacob Russell Campbell and Helen Floyd Campbell. In 1972, he permanently relocated to Walland, TN, at the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains. He retired in 1975 to pursue his love of gardening on a full time basis. To supplement his income he repaired lawn mowers and sold tomatoes from his garden. He continued to maintain and service his own vehicles until the age of 90. He was a man of strong faith and a practicing Christian who believed deeply in the Holy Scriptures and teachings of Jesus Christ. He was a member of the Grandview Baptist Church and assisted in the Sunday School program for a number of years. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who came to know him. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Luxy, Hershel and Vernon all veterans of World War II. Surviving are his sons, Charles (Marie), Newfoundland, Canada, Harold (Elizabeth), Miami, FL, Karl (Angelina), LaGuna Hills, CA, Reverend William (Mary) Caruthers, Dearborn, MI; grandchildren, Linda, Donna, James, Jamie, Michael, Vince, Heidi, Judy, David, and James; 8 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Survived by his sisters, Thelma Turner, Albuquerque, NM and Hazel Sigmon, West Palm Beach, FL. Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Franklin officiating. The interment will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in Grandview Cemetery.
