Roy Edward Stinnett

Stinnett, Roy Edward, - 78 of Maryville, TN, passed away on Mar 24, 2022. Roy was born on March 28, 1943 in Maryville, TN to Howard and Nannabelle Stinnett. Roy went to Maryville High School where he was known for his athletic skills on the football field and was part of the 1961 graduating class. Out of high school, he served in the Navy for four years, and married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Rainwater. The devoted couple celebrated their 58th anniversary in March.

Poppy (as he was lovingly known by his family) loved riding bikes, hiking trails, and traveling country roads with Shirley. Poppy was a storyteller, a dreamer, a bird watcher, a cyclist, a Believer. He was a slow driver who loved back-country roads and a motorcycle rider who loved to take trips with his son. He was a friend and blessing to all who knew him, and he was blessed with many friends. Poppy was the most wonderful husband and father anyone can imagine.

Preceding him in death, aside from his parents, are his brother, Bobby Stinnett, father-in-law, H.P. Rainwater, and mother-in-law, Louise Rainwater.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Stinnett; son, Darren Stinnett and fiancee, Tiffany Starr Smith; daughter, Wendi and husband, Mike Lesmerises; and two grandchildren, Emma Stinnett and Jack Lesmerises.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM, Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home and the service will follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. Jonathan Jonas officiating.
