Michael Warren Stevenson of Maryville passed away on Monday, March 16th. Mike was born in Laramie, WY, 74 years ago. Throughout his early life, he lived in Miami, FL , Louisville, KY, and Charlotte, NC. Mike graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, NC, where he met his future wife, Susan Russell. Mike and Sue were married 50 years and have 3 grown children. Mike was an employee at Western Electric and Bell Labs in the early 1970's. Later, he became a managing partner at Consulting Services, Inc. in Atlanta, GA.
In addition to his roles as husband, father and businessman, Mike loved community involvement and held many volunteer leadership positions throughout his life, such as being the president of a homeowners association, volunteer math teacher for the Blount County Adult Education, as well as coaching youth football. Throughout Mike's entire life he enjoyed sports, both playing and supporting. When in high school, Mike was a tight end for his team, where he once scored four touch downs in one game, and was carried off the field. Mike enjoyed playing golf with his brother-in-laws, son and friends, and he also was an accomplished tennis player in his younger years.
Mike is remembered for his sense of humor and optimism. It gave Mike joy to thank his veteran friends for their service, as well as his doctors and his nurses for their care of him. If anyone ever needed their spirits lifted, they just needed to be in the same room with Mike.
