Jean Thomas Wheeler (Dorothy) passed away on March 1, 2015 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Ma Jean leaves an unsurpassed legacy for love, kindness and selfless guidance for her family and friends. Preceded in death by her husbands, James Ray Thomas and William (Bill) Wheeler. Survived by her children Jim Thomas and wife Linda, Lynne Thomas Miller and husband Mike, Barry Thomas and wife Donna Kaye, Brent Thomas and wife Melanie and stepchildren Millie Wheeler Dunkel and husband Dan, Patti Wheeler Grubb and husband Steve. Grandchildren: Matt Thomas and wife Crystal, Clayton Thomas, Drew Thomas and wife Meghan, Audrey Stephens and husband Alex, Anna Thomas, Billy Dunkel and wife Sara, Betsy Wright and husband Casey, Kevin Martin and wife Mary, Nick Grubb. Great grandchildren Maleigha and Avery Wright, Wyatt Dunkel. Special thanks to the entire nursing staff on 9 North at Fort Sanders Regional for their attention to care and loving kindness. Jean was born in Alpharetta, Ga in 1927 and moved to Knoxville in 1961 where she joined Smithwood Baptist Church. In 1978 she moved to Maryville and joined Monte Vista Baptist Church and has remained an active member since. Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Monte Vista Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Mantooth officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Church. Family and friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Marietta National Cemetery, Marietta, GA, for the interment service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Monte Vista Baptist Church Building fund.
