James Edward "Jim" Compton, age 76 of Maryville, TN went home to his heavenly Father on March 5, 2023, at Select Specialty Hospital after a long and valiant struggle with Interstitial Lung Disease caused by Rheumatoid Arthritis. He was born on October 1, 1946, to Bill and Edna Moore Compton. He was an active member and Deacon at West Maryville Baptist Church. He was a proud Army and Vietnam Veteran where he was a Dog Handler. He received his bachelor's degree at Tennessee Tech and his Masters plus 30 at Lincoln Memorial University. James was a teacher at Fairview where he retired after almost 30 years and was also the Fairview Angels Girls Basketball Coach for many years. He wanted to thank the Fairview Community for allowing him to work there all those years. He served on the Blount County Election Commission for 9 years and as Chairman for 3 years. He served on the Blount County School Board for 8 years. He was a lifetime member of the TEA, NEA, BCEA and he was Chief Negotiator for BCEA for almost 16 years. He was one of the first elected to the Blount County Teacher Hall of Fame. He completely trusted in God to do what was best for him and he never worried about what was going to happen to him because he knew where he was going. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Lonas Grant and Margaret Matilda Shields Moore and William and Maude Jane Brewer Compton and his parents Bill and Edna Compton. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sharon Bradford Compton; son Eric (Sara) Compton; his grandchildren, Brooklyn, Brody, and Baylor Compton; his sister Edna Ruth Berry; brother, Harold (Otti) Compton; Nieces and Nephews, Melvin (Gina) McNeal, Michele (Jimmy) Bailey, Bill (Melissa) Compton, and Doris (Tim) Wilson; and Great Nieces and Nephews, James Grant Bailey, Michael Bailey, Emma Compton, Kendall Compton, Casey McNeal, Lindsey McNeal, and Carissa Craver. He would like to thank Gramsy and Papa Dumas for taking our son in and being so good to him. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Saturday, March 11, 2023, at McGammon Ammons Click Funeral Home and funeral to follow with Travis Eggers officiating. Family and friends will meet at Bethel Cemetery, Townsend at 3:00 Sunday. In lieu of flowers, make donations to West Maryville Baptist Church, 810 W Lamar Alexander Pkwy, Maryville, TN 37801 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org.
